OUR HISTORY

Valley Assembly of God (formally know as Williamsport Assembly of God) has had a rich history extending back to 1930's. Services were conducted in an old nine-room farmhouse located in the center of 265 acres. The family of George W. Fowler, Sr. and Virgie E. Fowler occupied the farmhouse, which became know as "Fowler's Hotel."

In 1934, the services were moved from "Fowler's Hotel" to Dellinger's schoolhouse, a few miles away. Cyril S. Fowler was the pastor of this new work. In the early 1940's it was decided that the church would move to a new location on Falling Waters Road.

The property was purchased for $300.00 by Earl Malatt on behalf of the church. The new location was dedicated to the Lord on Sunday, April 4, 1943. Luther, "Roy" Bowers temporarily assumed the pastorate and faithfully served for over thirty-five years, until promoted to glory.

Other Pastors serving the church were:
1975-1977 Pastor Ellis Hess
1977-1984 Pastor Robert McIntosh
1984-1987 Pastor Malcolm Preble
1987-1988 Pastor Gregory Miller
1988-1992 Pastor Ronald West

In 1992, Pastor Daniel Jordan, who was brought up in the church, assumed the pastorate. Pastor Jordan felt very blessed and privileged to have the opportunity to come back to his home church to pastor.

How did the transition from Williamsport Assembly of God to Valley Assembly of God happen?

For twelve years Pastor Daniel Jordan enjoyed pastoring the church. During that time they enjoyed growth and soon outgrew the sanctuary and fellowship hall. At that time God opened a door of opportunity. At a business meeting on July 6, 2003, the church overwhelming decided to relocate to 17544 York Rd. in Hagerstown.

This provided the church with a location more easily found by the community and with much more potential and thus now becoming known as Valley Assembly of God Christian Life Center.

In October 2005 a new Pastor took over the reigns of Valley. Pastor Robert Jones leaving his Pastorate in Niagara Falls New York began to fine tune the overall ministry of the church. Shortly after, the church’s name would be changed once again to what we know now as Valley Assembly of God.

For the past eighteen years, Pastor Jones has faithfully and whole heartly served Valley. The church has seen much growth including a 1.2 million dollar addition and remodeling of the sanctuary.

This church family, as it looks to God, is expecting and believing for great things in the days ahead. May God's blessing continue to rest on and provide a future for Valley Assembly of God.
